Q: Hi There! What kinds of effects do voice play on attracting a partner? Can you show how it could impact self-confidence, love connections and social popularity? Thanks!
A: Voice play — the characteristics of voice perception and perception itself — plays a role in how we perceive others and in how others perceive us. We use audio cues, words we use, language heard, and other auditory and visual clues to interpret others and the world around us. Other study participants performed auditory and visual tasks while listening to sounds. They perceived sounds more accurately when a partner delivered a message with a jolly voice and then followed by a soft one.
Another study replicated the results by using a multisensory manipulaton: Participants listened to a tone with a jolly voice followed by a quiet voice. What did they perceive as the speaker’s essence?
There is evidence that voice is also associated with emotions, nonverbal emotional expressions, and even affect (based on how they react to and perform with other participants) — all important factors in attraction to a partner.
